Why most security spending is misallocated
Organisations rarely under-spend on security. They spend in the wrong place — cameras covering a lobby that was never the exposure, guards posted at a door anyone can walk around, an access system with two hundred active credentials for eighty employees. The spending feels responsible because it is visible.
An honest assessment is uncomfortable for exactly that reason: it frequently concludes that part of the existing program can be reduced, and that the real vulnerability is procedural — who holds keys, who can authorise access, what happens when a terminated employee walks out, who is responsible at 2 a.m. on a long weekend.
How the assessment is conducted
We work in four stages, and we do not sell personnel during the first three.
1. Intake. A confidential conversation covering what prompted the review, prior incidents, insurance and regulatory obligations, and what an unacceptable outcome would look like for you specifically.
2. On-site walkthrough. The property observed as an outsider would see it — approach, sightlines, entry points, after-hours behaviour — and then as an insider does, including staff practice as it actually happens rather than as policy describes it.
3. Analysis. Threats assessed by likelihood and consequence, mapped against existing controls, with the gaps stated plainly.
4. Written report. Findings, prioritised recommendations separated into immediate, near-term and strategic, with indicative cost and effort so a board can make a decision from the document itself.
Advice you can act on — with or without us
An assessment written by the same firm that will bill for the recommended guards is not an assessment. Our consulting engagements are priced and delivered independently of any personnel contract, and a report frequently recommends procedural and physical changes that require no ongoing Paramount involvement at all.
Where clients do want implementation support, it is a separate decision made after the report — never a condition of receiving one. Reports are delivered under strict confidentiality; we do not name clients, properties or findings to anyone.
